BOOKS in ORBIT
A MONTHLY BOOK CLUB ABOUT
HOW IT WORKS
THE PHILOSOPHY
Books in Orbit is a monthly book club curated in collaboration with astrologer Caitlin Adams.
At the start of each zodiacal season, we highlight a contemporary book and uncover a past creative counterpart. Two books orbiting each other. The list is curated based on the specific astrological season we’re in and any planetary movement that will happen whilst in it.
We’re not requiring you to read two books; we’ll be focusing mostly on the contemporary one. But in order to create a richer dialogue within an astrological and literary context, we recommend both. Perhaps one sparks interest in the other.
We will not solely have astrological conversations. Caitlin Adams will give insight into the astrological moment, explain the curation for the season, and add any other inspired food for thought.
Readers can expect to sink their teeth deeply into the background and framework that the language of astrological research-wisdom provides and how this framework is a measurement in utilizing the current transits to guide choice, action, time, and logic.
Books In Orbit is a community-driven, conversation-building, literary space for depth, for humor, for the interior, for socially enriching dialogue, and the mind’s desire for symbolism.
We’ll aim to meet for a monthly discussion, usually in person, virtually when needed. We will be joined by authors or other guests whenever possible.
You can get the books from your bookstore of choice, but purchasing the books from Black Spring Books guarantees you a discount code for a private chart reading with Caitlin Adams, as well as a free RSVP to the discussion. Without a book purchase (of one or both) there will be a small fee to attend the discussion.
You can always check back here for details, for event schedule, and for more information on the books.
Why do we read, what we read, when we read it? Why do we start certain things or end certain things when we do? Why are specific intellectual pursuits or spiritual undertakings more prominent at particular moments over others? Above our heads there is an astronomical map—providing a traceable, defined blueprint—illuminating insights around every rhythm and season (literally, emotionally, physically) that our human existence moves through and between.
Books in Orbit is a way to illuminate how zodiacal energies both guide and support our urges and desires at any given moment. Launched at the beginning stages of Venus retrograde 2026, as Venus begins her descent from her position of fall (Venus in Scorpio) to her position of rulership or domicile (Venus in Libra), during which she will form a cazimi [coming from the arabic phrase, kaṣmīmī meaning “as if in the heart of the sun”].
With Venus Retrograde as our guide, Books in Orbit will always call in the romantic, creative past—retrograde—with a creative, solar presence—cazimi.
Pop astrology can be fun for the masses! But this is not that! In fact, it is intended to be a keyhole into the world of astrological research way beyond mainstream, social-media astrology culture. There is a world of philosophy, mythology, history, criticism, and theory that simply ‘fits like a glove’ to the ways in which we interpret text and chit-chat about our favorite books.

Her work as a consulting astrologer began as a child late at night reading, writing, and speculating about the astrological energies of her family members. Astrology was always the secret Scorpio world she visited privately. Sometime in high school in the early 2000s, she learned her whole birthchart. This eventually led to many incredible connections. Her work in astrology began when she moved to NYC, met celebrity-astrologer Aliza Kelly, and began working on an app. In 2020, she started her private practice and now works with over 150 clients world-wide.
